As Doak Walker’s playing career at Southern Methodist ended the week before when he reinjured his leg against TCU in Fort Worth, Doak made his way onto the field at Cotton Bowl Stadium one last time, December 3, 1949. Joining fellow co-captains, Bobby Folsom (84) and Dick McKissack (38), Walker walked to midfield for the game’s opening coin flip against a Notre Dame team that had not lost a game in four years.
