The House That Doak Built (Acrylic)
The House That Doak Built (Acrylic)
After missing the 1946 season due to a military commitment, Doak’s SMU teammates were all smiles with his return for the 1947 season. After winning their first five games, the undefeated Ponies next faced the also undefeated Texas Longhorns in Dallas. The demand for tickets for the Texas game was so great, that SMU decided to move the game to the Cotton Bowl, which had a capacity of 50,000. This photo in the Cotton Bowl Stadium Locker Room was taken right after the game. Doak Walker would win the 1948 Heisman Trophy the next season.
